I puchased this item for my daughter when she was 2 years old. She was globally delayed (speech, walking, fine/gross motor skills, etc...). Every night of her life, we sat on the couch together and I would draw/write the letters of the alphabet and numbers and she learned to speak those items. Her job was to erase the board when we needed to, of course. She learned how to write her name, READ, add, and draw on this Magnadoodle board. She's 5 years old now and academically beyond the children in her class (K). I credit this to she and I sitting down every night and utilizing this wonderful toy that she took a liking to. This is a wonderful toy and I have recommended it to every person I know who has delayed or developmentally disabled children. Hard work and a toy can make a difference. :o) This is STILL her favorite toy in the house.
